The story of a miracle
on the Hudson River
It did not take New York ferries, police
boats, fireboats, and the coast guard
long to reach the scene and help
rescue the passengers. Fortunately, all
passengers and crew members were
picked up and sent to hospitals for
treatment. The event has been called
“the Miracle on the Hudson River”, and
the captain pilot Chesley Burnett “Sully”
Sullenberger III has been seen as a hero.

Soon, the aircraft contacted the surface
of the Hudson River, and it started to
drift. Eyewitnesses couldn’t believe
their eyes. Most passengers walked out
to stand on the wings while some were
swimming away in case an explosion
took place.

Just after the takeoff while the
passengers and crew members were
expecting to enjoy a pleasant flight,
something unexpected happened. The
aircraft struck a flock of birds and lost
power in both engines. The moment of
life or death had arrived.
